The Block Island School is K-12 with 116 students. The school was built in 1933, replacing five one roomed schools. Today, the Block Island School educates about 112 students, kindergarten through senior year. A regular school day is Monday through Thursday from 7:50am – 2:50 pm. Every Friday, school dismisses at 12:22 pm to allow for student-athletes to travel for sporting events either on, or off the island.

The Block Island School is seeking a full-time elementary teacher to work in a grade 5-7 team environment beginning with the 2017-2018 school year. Primary responsibilities are in the areas of Social Studies for grades 5-7 and ELA for grade 6. Candidates will be evaluated on their knowledge of the Common Core Curriculum for ELA and National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies (NCSS), skills in the integration of technology and curriculum, prior experiences working with the social and emotional needs of this age group, and ability to work on a team. Candidates must hold or be eligible for a Rhode Island elementary education certification (grades 1-6). A middle school extension/endorsement is a plus.
The Block Island School is also seeking a Social Studies Teacher. The Social Studies teacher will teach five different courses to students in grades 8-12. Western Civilization and US History are each three semesters long and offered to students in grades 9-11. Rhode Island Secondary Grades Social Studies certification is required. Candidates should have a background in CCSS-ELA and classroom technology.
