Block Island Jobs

Your #1 Source for jobs on Block Island

I've heard from a number of frustrated job seekers on Block Island, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. What are some hiring managers doing wrong?

Here is a quick list of some offenses cited by island job seekers:

  • Not responding to phone calls and resume submissions.
  • Answering cell phones and emails during the interview.
  • Coming to the interview unprepared.
  • Arriving late and making the candidate wait beyond a reasonable amount of time.
  • Dominating the conversation and interrupting the candidate.
  • Avoiding eye contact.
  • Making the candidate feel uncomfortable.
  • Not taking notes.

Employers: My tip - Make an Impression!

  • Your conduct during an interview speaks volumes to the candidate as to whether or not you value their time, their skills, and the job at hand.
  • Your conduct also projects an image of your company or business and what it's like to work there Be respectful.
  • Polite conversation will go a long way to keeping - and not repelling - great candidates.

Again, this is not all employers on the islands, only some employers are doing this. My message to those employers: Manners still matter when it comes to catching the right candidate!

I am a student at the American University in Bulgaria who is coming to Martha's in the beginning of May until the beginning of September. I am looking for some job opportunities on the island and would appreciate it if someone could give me some practical advice.
Thank you
